The Many Styles of Hearing Aids
So, you have a hearing loss. Now what?
First, be assured, you’re not alone! Nearly 38 million Americans have a hearing loss. For many people, hearing aids are the best choice of treatment options to help correct untreated hearing loss and resume a high quality of life.
There are many great options for hearing aids these days. Now, hearing aids are more like mini computers than they are simple amplifiers. All digital hearing aids have a microphone to pick up sound, a computer chip that amplifies and processes sound, a speaker to send the sound to your ear and a battery for power. These basic components are the “guts” of the hearing aids and can be packaged into many different styles or shapes of hearing aids.
Hearing aids can be broken into two main styles: in-the-ear (ITE) styles and behind-the-ear (BTE) styles.
Within each group, there are several different sizes.

The style of hearing aid depends on a lot of factors, such as the amount of hearing loss you are experiencing, your dexterity, vision impairment, cosmetics and your preference. Some people even prefer rechargeable hearing aids. It is best to discuss with your hearing health provider about the best style for you and your hearing loss.
